Jesuits - if it's trendy, sign us up!

Coming to a Church near you?

The Jesuits at America magazine are so enthralled by the "Occupy Wall Street" protests that they propose aiming a similar protest at the Church.    A Fordham professor suggests many possible motivations for doing this, in a self-righteous and overwrought prose style that suits his argument perfectly.   For example, the Fordham professor asks,

"... like the "Occupy Wall Street" movement, would the precipitating awareness that would lead you to join such a movement simply be a recognition of the intractibilty (sic) of the the near invisibility, in everyday church governance, of the overwhelming majority (all non-ordained persons) as compared to the small minority (the ordained)?"

Any similarities between the OWS movement and the offshoot Occupy the Church movement advocated by Fordham professor elude me.  Still, insofar as I understand the professor's question, my answer is a simple "No."

Robert Araujo, SJ responds more fully here.   (h/t Good Jesuit, Bad Jesuit)

St. Ignatius Loyola, pray for us.
