On praying for the Souls in Purgatory

The Church devotes November to prayer and sacrifice on behalf of the holy souls in Purgatory.

Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich ( 1774 AD - 1824 AD), was a stigmatic and visionary who, for the last 12 years of her life subsisted upon the Eucharist alone.  Of prayer for the souls in Purgatory Blessed Anne says the following:

"[I]t is more holy to pray for the Poor Souls in Purgatory than for sinners who are still alive."
