Why we love to read Damian Thompson

To the English, an object of passion

Today the Telegraph editor and blogger lands uppercuts upon the chins of pompous clergy of both C of E and Catholic persuasions, places a solid right cross upon the "girlish lips" of Rick Perry, then flicks a few jabs at Arthur Conan Doyle and radical feminist Laurie Penny, before closing with a short reflection upon Colman's Instant Gravy Paste and England's national passion for gravy.

Though Thompson is great, the comments are perhaps even better.   Thompson's unfiltered commentary has attracted a vast community of trolls and counter-trolls who seem to know each other so well they're practically a family.  I'm not sure it's edifying, but it's surely entertaining.
